Hello, my name is Sayo and I am the founder of Galerie Inaba.  Having grown up living between Japan and Bali, I am now based in Australia, with the support of my warm-hearted family and a community of friends who encourage me to pursue my passion.

Galerie Inaba is an online art gallery that showcases a carefully curated collection, that my parents, renowned Japanese art collectors - Takashi and Shihoko Inaba, have passionately accrued over a lifetime.

Through my formative years, my parents instilled in me the joy of being surrounded by primitive objects and works of great beauty.  As such my relationship with art, particularly the Wabi-Sabi philosophy, has organically grown and developed since my childhood. Whether ancient or modern, the artworks in our family collection symbolise unassuming, ineffable beauty. As long as I can remember, my everyday life has been surrounded by these objects.

A weathered, well patinated wooden statue from Borneo welcomed me at the entrance of our home.  An ancient terra cotta pottery portrait of a lady from Southeast Asia adorned the walls of my father's office.  My mother who is an exceptional cook served us Kaiseki (traditional multi-course Japanese cuisine) on simple yet beautiful Hakuji (white porcelain dishes). No single piece of porcelain was the same shape or size, yet all different shades of white.

Over many decades, we have been grateful to acquire antiques and modern art pieces that possess inherent value and aesthetic qualities.

Within our collection, you will find an array of ancient, primitive and contemporary arts that evoke emotions, as well as exquisite antique furniture and ornaments. In recent years, I have had pleasure in extending my parents’ collection with my own bespoke jewellery range, crafted in 22k gold.

‌Now that I have my own family, I realise how important it is to keep my parents' legacy and passion alive. Through Galerie Inaba, I wish to share with you the unassuming true beauty of primitive and contemporary art, presenting objects that resonate with you through their abstract form, encompassing lines, shapes, silhouettes, and design.
